Knowing where to start is half the battle

We’ve all been there. You’ve made the decision that you want to change your career to something that you’ve always wanted to do, and that can also pay the bills. But where and how do you start?

Everyone has advice on what you should (and shouldn’t) be doing and unfortunately most of this advice is from those who are still stuck in their bedrooms, charging you for advice on how to wind up stuck exactly where they are, or they’re using websites featuring stock photos of someone else’s studio (sometimes ours).

To quote the old adage

“Take at close look at your instructor, because they can only teach you to be where they are now”

We run the worlds leading Apple certified EDM focused studio (Altar Studios), we’ve produced records for artists that accrued millions of views on YouTube, we wrote the world leading textbook on EDM production, we’ve mixed and mastered for many professional labels and we’ve held talks on EDM across the world.

In our 6-week step-by-step course, you can talk with a leading professional and learn everything you need to know about starting and making a career in this industry, just like we have.

We’ll strip away the mystery and illusion behind music production and introduce the concepts of DAW’s, audio interfaces, speakers, headphones, plug-ins, and what it takes to really make it in the industry.

By the end of the course, you’ll know all about DAW’s, how to choose the right audio interface and speakers, what plug-ins you’ll need to create the music for your genre, how to start learning production and industry advice on how to make a career from music production.

This is a great place to start if you have never written a track before or  you are only ever making loops and want to move your production forward. This is a short course that gives you a solid foundation and a is great fun place to start.

Computers and Skill Development

In the first module you’ll earn about computer requirements, the different DAW’s and their advantages and disadvantages alongside how to develop some of the most important skills you’ll rely on for the rest of your career in EDM.

By the end of this module, you’ll know what computer you’ll need, if it requires upgrades, how to choose a DAW that suits you and how to begin developing a basic skillset.

Audio Interfaces

In week 2, you’ll learn all about audio interfaces, reactance rates, inputs/outputs, the different cabling options and how to wire a basic studio set-up.

At the end of this module you’ll be able to make an informed decision on what’s the best audio interface to suit your requirements and how to connect everything up to create your first studio.

Monitors, Speakers & Headphones

In week 3, you’ll learn about speakers, monitors, headphones and room acoustics. Do you need a headphone amp? What about Ohms? What are good monitors to use or should you just use headphones?

At the end of this module you’ll be able to make an informed decision on what monitors and/or headphones you’ll need to produce on and how to ensure you get the best sound from your room.

Plug Ins

This module moves back “in the box” with your studio set-up all planned out we look at plug-ins. Are the DAW’s own plug-ins good enough? Do you need other plug-ins and where should you buy from? And what about hardware?

At the end of this module you’ll know what synthesisers and processing plug-ins you need to create your genre of music, which are invaluable and whether to buy or subscribe to plugin manufacturers.

Using Your Daw

You’ll learn the basic elements common to all DAWs, the piano roll and audio editing, using sends and inserts, processors and effects, and how to develop your essential analytical skills.

By the end of this module you’ll have a basic understanding of how a DAW works, and how you can use them to start creating music.

Career options

For the final part of the course, you’ll learn about the different career options available to you, how you can begin to see an income quickly, how to work with labels, what you really need to know about the industry and how to tell if advice is good or bad.

By the end of the course you’ll be fully prepared to begin your journey. You’ll know what interface and monitors to buy, how to set them all up, how to modify your room so it sounds its best, which DAW to choose and the plug-ins you’ll need.

What are you waiting for?

We don’t believe in peer groups, relying solely on pre-recorded videos or group meetings.

Courses that are based around a series of pre-recorded videos are not helpful in speeding up your development. Online groups where you are reviewed by your “peers” leave you with misguided dogmas, and meeting with an instructor in groups limits your time to ask questions or prevent you from asking what you think may be an embarrassing question.

These all reduce your natural development to a grind or halt.

All of our courses are personalised, with direct one to one mentoring between you and your instructor. Sitting with and learning with a true qualified and experienced professional will expedite your learning process, helping you specialise in your genre and bring you closer to your releases much faster.

Note: Due to the nature of these courses and personalised one to one time, places are extremely limited.
